Scholarships covering up to 50% of camp costs are available on a limited basis for families that qualify for assistance. We strive to make camp accessible for ALL children. Unfortunately, the Kroc Center cannot provide specialized, one-on-one care for any individual camper. Parents of children with special needs must submit an inclusion application AND meet with the Day Camp Supervisor at least three weeks prior to your desired camp start date.  At this time, we can work together to decide if the Kroc Center is the best place for the camper.

2. Counselors and campers work together to create a “group contract” and outline the consequences for misbehavior. We deal with issues pro-actively, by informing campers of expectations and creating an environment that fosters safety, openness and respect.

3.  Bullying of any kind is not acceptable and will be addressed immediately.

4.  Our behavior correction process is a three step system:

Step one: Verbal warning

Step two: Temporary suspension from activity and discussion with Day Camp Manager

Step three: Parents will be notified. If campers do not follow the rules or repeatedly misbehave, we will contact parents. Depending on the severity and frequency of the adverse behavior, campers may be dismissed from camp at the discretion of The Salvation Army Kroc Center.  No refunds will be issued for time missed due to disciplinary reasons.

5.  Campers are expected to follow our five guidelines for behavior:

  • Respect Yourself
  • Respect Others
  • Respect Authority
  • Respect the Kroc Center
  • Have fun!

If you feel that your camper may struggle with any of the above guidelines,  please fill out an inclusion application to make sure we can provide the best care possible.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT CAMP

WHAT TO WEAR

WHAT TO BRING

As of February 2022, COVID-related guidelines for summer camps have not been finalized by the State of Michigan’s licensing agencies. The information below is based on 2021 requirements, in order to provide an idea of what to expect. Changes are likely before the start of the summer, and will be communicated to registered families in camp newsletters and other materials.

  • Campers are asked to not attend camp if feeling ill, or if they have been exposed to a positive COVID case.
  • Basic health screenings, including taking campers’ temperatures, may be required upon arrival.
  • Check–in/check–out areas will remain separate from camper rooms for distancing purposes.
  • Camper groups will be socially distanced as much as possible.
  • Campers who become ill during the day will be isolated in a staff-monitored “sick room,” and a parent or guardian will be contacted to pick the child up from camp immediately.
  • Face covering requirements for staff and campers will be based on state and local guidelines in place at the time of camp.
  • As many activities as possible will be moved outdoors.
  • There will be frequent hand washing breaks, with sanitizer readily available throughout the Kroc Center.
  • Families will be encouraged to limit the potential sharing of personal items by:
    – Not bringing comfort items from home, such as toys or blankets
    – Having campers bring their own bottle to use at water-filling stations around the facility.
